Park sponsor Henning Strauss becomes a member of the Board of Trustees of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research

The ALEA Initiative and park patron Henning Strauss have been committed to education, biodiversity, and botany for years. ALEA SCHOOL is an educational partner of Senckenberg, and ALEA PARK is a thriving haven for native plants and selected exotic species. At Horstberg, the CURA SILVA therapeutic forest is set to become a new destination that strengthens mental health and resilience while promoting physical well-being. Henning Strauss has now been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research to advise and support the Frankfurt-based institution in the future.

The Board of Trustees currently comprises 58 members from the fields of politics, academia, and business. In addition to Henning Strauss, these include leading figures such as Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch, Prof. Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen, and Dr. h.c. Dirk Steffens. With his ecological foresight and entrepreneurial expertise, Henning Strauss will support and advise the Board of Trustees in the future on strategic development and the promotion of the school’s mission. As a park sponsor, school board member of the ALEA SCHOOL, and passionate botany enthusiast and nature lover, Strauss has been committed to education and biodiversity for many years.

In Bad Orb, the Orbwald forest, among other sites, has become a new research area for the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research. As part of the research project “The Future of Our Forests in the Face of Climate Change,” observational and satellite data on weather extremes and the condition of the forest are being collected here to help ensure the sustainability of native forests. The project leader is Prof. Dr. Thomas Hickler, a biogeographer and climate researcher at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Center (SBiK-F) and a professor of quantitative biogeography at Goethe University Frankfurt. His research focuses on the impacts of climate change on forests.

Natural science is also part of the ALEA SCHOOL and firmly integrated into the curriculum. As a result, a palm-themed auditorium and a “Dinotorium”—featuring dinosaur skeletons suspended from the ceiling—are being built on the Parkallee campus. The Dinotorium also serves as an assembly hall, lecture hall, theater, and auditorium—and on special occasions, it becomes a movie theater open to all members of the public.

As part of his appointment to the Board of Trustees, Henning Strauss visited the exhibits at the Senckenberg Nature Museum in Frankfurt.
